Please introduce yourself and tell us how long you have been
collecting Teddy Bears?
Hi, my name is Robbie and my first bear came into my
life at an age I don't recall as I was too young. He was a gift from my
grandmother and has been with me ever since. How long a time is this? To
answer that would be revealing just how ancient I am.... suffice to say, its a
habit/obsession that has persisted for the best part of 50 years!
How big is your Hug, and how big do you want it to become?
How
big? You mean I have to go count them all?
Oh dear....
In general, my bears are all small and jointed. They range from tiny to
about 5 inches in size.
Last time I counted, there were over 80 in my collection.... and there are
in total about 200 in the house as someone else here collects them as
well.
Do you collect Bears of all types or only Artist Bears?
My
collection is restricted by size...
small....structure....jointed......colour.....proper bear colours, not blues or
pinks etc.... not dressed up in costumes or clothes.....and naturally enough,
appeal.
If they don't appeal, then they don't come home with me.
I have a number of both mass produced and artist bears... all have to fit
the criteria above.
Do you have a favourite Teddy, or perhaps a favourite Artist?
My
original "Golden" teddy will always have first place despite not fitting the
size criteria.
As for bear artists, I have a number of "Designed by Mary" miniatures made
both by Mary herself as well as Wendy Joy.
What style of bears do you collect, Traditional, Contemporary, or
Whacky!?!
I have a tiny jointed ceramic bear by Carolynne of Carolynne's
Miniantures - this is one of only a couple of pieces that I have made from non
traditional materials.
I guess that my choice in design style is traditional although my latest
addition is a bear from Tracey Morton of the Swan Hill Bear Company - Oliver is
a "Raggy Orphan" - all loose and floppy!
Whats the best thing about being a Teddy collector?
Every bear
deserves a good home..... and I like to think that they find a safe place
here!
Teddies are soul warming when things are tough, non judgemental when life
is getting difficult, warm to cuddle and don't complain when you squeeze them
too tight! They never tell you that you're being a pain in the arse... they
accept you as you are, warts and all... what better friend?
I am yet to acquire a
Taralee Ted.... but the time will come.
Thanks Robbie
